Transferring from a highly successful run at The Broadway Studio in SE6 earlier this year, Road takes you on a rollercoaster ride back to the North of England in 1987. Meet the characters that use booze, humour, big hair and even bigger shoulder-pads to get them through the night. Accompanied by a fantastic soundtrack that defies anyone to not bob along this is a corker of a show!
Our stellar cast grabs and drags you deep into their world and invites you to share in their most hilarious, secret, scary and tragic moments. Guaranteed to have you crying with laughter and sadness equally, their outstanding performances will stay with you for days afterwards. Hilarious, thought-provoking, tragic, brash, heart-breaking, riotous…the list is endless – but don’t take our word for it…..COME AND SEE THE SHOW FOR YOURSELF!!
A gritty, visceral portrayal of Northern life in late 80's Thatchers Britain. The intimate surroundings of the Tabard theatre lends further ambiance to this engrossing production of Jim Cartwrights script, it literally felt like the audience were being pulled back in time to an era where high unemployment and growing social dissatisfaction were issues being confronted on a daily basis. The superb cast took us on an emotive journey that was in parts funny and sombre whilst maintaining the thought provoking themes of life on the 'Road'. Dave Chivers - 15 Sept 2007
Saw your production of Road tonight. I can't praise it highly enough. You all have amazing talent. I am an actress and I know how hard you all must have worked - you left no stone unturned! I grinned and welled up in equal measures. Well done. Jules Kingham - 8 Sept 2007
Excellent cast in a potent mix of filthy gallows humour and raw social commentary. A powerful, original and entertaining evening. Alun Hood
Took me up and down like a Yoyo; howling with laughter in one breath, empathising but wanting to reach out and hug the character the next......Will definitely come and see again…. Paul Rowen
First I was taken back to the 80's by the fab soundtrack, crimped hair and shoulder pads. Next I laughed at the witty dialogue and sharp humour. And then I experienced the despair and hopelessness that was the cruel reality of 80's Britain in the North - I laughed hard, but then had to try hard not to cry ....….It is just a great show from start to finish! Louise Bowditch
A retro, raucous riot of a show! A superb production with a brilliant cast and a banging soundtrack… Lara Geall
Took me back to the 80’s from the minute it began – harrowing and hilarious at every turn. Fabulous direction with a very talented cast drew me into this world and made me never want to leave… Vicky Geddes - FMC Publications
Captivating from start to finish, great interaction with the audience which made me feel I was re-living it all. Cracking performances by every member of the cast who clearly loved the show themselves. Good combination of both moving and laugh-out-loud moments. Very cool sound-track and if you grew up in this era I challenge anyone to not look back with a smile on your face and remember those Friday nights out with your mates! David Magee
Moving and poignant yet mixed with laugh out load moments... any child of the 80's will delight in the memories of those long forgotten songs of their youth! A must see......! Caroline Sumners
